2009 State Convention
Dear Federation Family and Friends,
It is my pleasure to invite and urge you to attend the 2009 Convention of the National Federation of the Blind of Idaho. We will be privileged to have Parnell Diggs, President of the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina and a member of the National Board as our National Representative. He is a lawyer with a private practice and a musician. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Dawn and they have a son Jordan who is eight years old and they live in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. The Convention will be at the Owyhee Hotel, 1109 Main Street, Boise ID 83702, (208) 343-4611.

Hotel reservations are due by March 13, 2009. Please call the hotel to make your reservations. The rate is $65.00 plus tax. Pre-registration is due by March 18, 2009.

Our convention theme is “Braille Means Literacy”. We will start our Convention Friday morning with a State Board Meeting and Breakfast at 8:30 AM for a great start to the Convention.
We are pleased to have a Technology Seminar that will go from 10:30 AM — 4 PM come and examine both computers and simple devices that are adapted for use by the blind and visually impaired. Seniors will have an opportunity to meet others who are loosing vision and coping successfully. The Senior Seminar will go from 10:30 AM – 1 PM and will include lunch. We will have a Student Seminar starting at noon after attending the Technology Seminar in the morning. In the afternoon we will be offering two separate fun and interactive Braille classes, one from 2 PM. — 3 PM. and another from 3 PM. — 4 PM. At 4 PM there will be a press conference we will have a Celebration launching the Louis Braille Commemorative Coin. This coin is produced by the US Mint in honor of Louis Braille’s 200th birthday.
Friday evening will be the resolutions committee meeting. Resolutions are how the affiliate sets its policies. Come listen to the discussion so that you can make an informed vote on Sunday. The Hospitality Room will be open in the evening for members and guests to socialize and relax .
Saturday will be the General Session for all to attend. We have a great agenda shaping up. Three divisions will have meetings during our lunch break; the Idaho parents of Blind Children, the Student Division, and the Senior Division. Our Banquet will be the highlight of the Convention. Dress up, and come enjoy the wonderful festivities. The Silent Auction will conclude at the end of the Banquet, so get your bids in on your favorite items
Sunday morning will be a free breakfast so we will all be well nourished to conduct the business of the Convention. We will have Chapter and Division Reports, Committee reports, elections of officers, and election of a delegate and alternate delegate to the National Convention in Detroit, along with all the other things that need to be addressed.
Do not forget, you have to be in the room to be eligible for a door prize, if your name is drawn. We will have some great door prizes so do not miss out!
